Professor Frank Zaucke is research director at the Department of Orthopedics at the University Hospital in Frankfurt, Goethe University, Germany. His research interests include mechsnisms of skeletal development as well as pathomechanisms of rare and common muskuloskeletal disorders. His lab is particularly interested in the structure and function of the extracellular matrix in bone and cartilage and its contribution to osteoarthritis and osteogenesis imperfecta. Trained as a biochemist he uses cell culture and animal models as well as patient samples in his research. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers, is member of numerous scientific societies and vice-president of the German Society for Matrix Biology. His research is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the European Union and the Dr. Rolf M. Schwiete Foundation and he serves on the editorial board of Cellular Signalling, the American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, Scientific Reports, and Molecular Biology Reports.
