Prof. Christelle Nguyen, MD, PhD, is a clinician scientist and full professor of physical and rehabilitation medicine at Université de Paris, Faculté de Santé (Paris, France).
She obtained her MD at the Faculté de Médecine Paris Pierre and Marie Curie and holds a PhD in osteoarticular biology from the Université Paris Diderot. After a 2-year Visiting Academic position at the Institute For Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland in Australia, she joined INSERM UMR 1124 (UFR des Sciences Fondamentales et Biomédicales, Université de Paris). She is also consultant in the department of physical and rehabilitation medicine at Cochin hospital (Paris, France) since 2014.
She is leading translational research projects aiming at: 1/ better understanding molecular mechanisms involved in intervertebral disc and articular cartilage diseases, using original in vitro and in vivo models, 2/ assessing the efficacy and safety of targeted non-pharmacological interventions in musculoskeletal disorders including osteoarthritis and intervertebral disc diseases, and 3/ developing instruments to measure disability specific to these conditions.
Prof. Christelle Nguyen is author of more than 120 articles in peer-reviewed journals including the Lancet, the Annals of Internal Medicine and the JAMA Internal Medicine. She has been awarded the Young Investigator Prize from the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation and the Distinguished Researcher Award (early career) from the International Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (ISPRM). She is member of the French Societies of physical and rehabilitation medicine (SOFMER) and of rheumatology (SFR), and editorial board member for PLOS Medicine.
