Professor Rocky Tuan earned his PhD from The Rockefeller University in 1977 and has served as the 8th Vice-Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) since 2018. He is an internationally recognized biomedical scientist with expertise in musculoskeletal biology, tissue regeneration, stem cells, biomaterials, 3D printing, and tissue-on-a-chip technologies. He is also the Founding Director and Professor at the CUHK Institute for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine.

Professor Tuan has authored approximately 650 publications and received numerous honors, including the Marshall Urist Award, Clemson Award, and Carnegie Science Award. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, Chinese Association of Inventions, American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, American Association of Anatomy, Orthopaedic Research Society, and the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society.

He is the founding editor of Birth Defects Research (2003–2017) and Stem Cell Research & Therapy (2009–present), and currently serves as Associate Editor of Stem Cells Translational Medicine (2011–present).
