Henning Madry is a German clinician-scientist. He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage Open, was named Chair of the Institute of Experimental Orthopaedics at Saarland University, Germany with a joint appointment in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2009 and received the Oskar Medicine Award in 2023 for his contributions to OA knowledge (one of the most renowned medicine prizes in Germany).

He obtained his MD (summa cum laude) in 1996 from Humboldt University in Berlin. Dr. Madry was resident at the Department of Trauma Surgery, Charité Medical School, Berlin, and was board-certified in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery in 2004. His postdoctoral research fellowships were at the Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a visiting professor at the Sorbonne Université Paris (2018). Professor Madry`s research program focuses on fundamental and translational aspects of osteoarthritis (Sci Transl Med 2022, 2020, 2019; Adv Sci 2022) and articular cartilage repair (OA&C 2022, 2017, 2014; FASEB J 2018). His clinical practice includes regenerative surgical treatments for cartilage defects of the knee and osteoarthritis. Selected honors include the Arthur Vick Award of the German Society for Orthopaedic Rheumatology (2022), the Prix interrégional de la Recherche 2012 -1er Prix for the Cartilage Net and a Space Act Award (NASA, 2004).
