Dr. Farida Djouad is a Research Director at Inserm and leads the "Mechanisms of Regeneration and Therapeutic Applications" group at the Institute of Regenerative Medicine and Biotherapy (IRMB) in Montpellier, France. She obtained her PhD in Biology and Health from the University of Montpellier, France in 2006 and pursued a post-doctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH/NIAMS) in Bethesda, where she focused on mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) and cartilage engineering under the mentorship of Pr. Rocky Tuan. Since 2015, Dr. Djouad has been a prominent figure in the development of adult stem cell-based therapies.
In addition to her research, Dr. Djouad plays a significant role in various scientific initiatives. She is the scientific leader of the IHU Immun4Cure and heads the work package "Restoring immune homeostasis through cell therapy and in vivo cell reprogramming" within the same initiative. She is also an active member of the IHU Immun4Cure steering committee and leads the "In vivo proof-of-concept using animal models" work package of FHU REGENHAB. Furthermore, she serves as the scientific coordinator of PEPR iCHONDRO, a project dedicated to the "Generation of iChondrocytes to regenerate articular cartilage."
In recognition of her contributions, Dr. Djouad was honored as Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite in June 2024.
