Inger Mechlenburg

Professor Inger Mechlenburg leads the Exercise Medicine research group at the Department of Orthopaedics, Aarhus University Hospital. Additionally, she serves on the Research Council at Aarhus University Hospital and on the Steering Committee for the Danish Hip Arthroplasty Registry. Professor Mechlenburg has studied early diagnosis and treatment of many musculoskeletal conditions and has facilitated multiple multi-center clinical trials on exercise for musculoskeletal conditions. Prof. I. Mechlenburg (AU) (ORCID: 0000-0001-5432-8691) is a leading expert in hip conditions, known for her pioneering work in early diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. She oversees seven multi-center randomized controlled clinical trials on exercise for musculoskeletal conditions and participates in three additional international RCTs. Prof. Mechlenburg has published 202 peer-reviewed journal articles, with a Scopus H-index of 25 and 2,318 citations. Notably, 27% of her papers are in the top 10% of journals (SciVal, January 2025), including one in the New England Journal of Medicine. She has secured multiple independent research grants and leads the Exercise Medicine group at the Department of Orthopaedics, Aarhus University Hospital. Additionally, she serves on the Research Council at Aarhus University Hospital and the Steering Committee for the Danish Hip Arthroplasty Registry. Prof. Mechlenburg has successfully supervised junior researchers at all career stages.
