Medical Faculty, Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg

Andrea Schwab is a post-doctoral researcher at the Experimental Orthopedics, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, Medical Faculty. Her research focuses on cartilage calcification in osteoarthritis, cartilage in vitro and ex vivo models and the zone of calcified cartilage. She did her PhD at the Department of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine (Julius Maximilians University, Wuerzburg) establishing an osteochondral defect model characterized by its separated media compartments for bone and cartilage tissue. In 2018, Andrea joined the AO Research Institute in Davos (Biomedical Materials focus area) exploring the interaction of cells with biomaterials, shear induced alignment of collagen fibrils through 3D extrusion bioprinting and cell laden hydrogels for application in orthopedic tissue engineering and regeneration. Between 2021 and 2022 Andrea worked at the Connective Tissue Repair Lab (Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam) focusing on the characterization of the zone of calcified cartilage at the cartilage-bone interface.
