Washington University

The unifying motivation of Dr. Alexander Knights' research has been to understand how diverse cell types interact with each other to maintain homeostasis, and how these interactions go awry in disease. Dr. Knights received his PhD from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, studying gene regulation in the inflammatory response and adipose immunology. During his postdoctoral studies at the University of Michigan, Dr. Knights shifted his attention towards musculoskeletal disease, namely osteoarthritis, studying Wnt signaling and cellular mechanisms of fibrosis and inflammation. He recently started his independent laboratory at Washington University in St Louis, focused on understanding joint injury and the onset of arthritis through a cellular crosstalk lens.
