Jérôme Guicheux (YOB 1970), earned his PhD in cell biology and health sciences in 1997 from the Nantes University School of Dental Medicine. He was a research associate in rheumatology at the University Medical Center of Geneva (CH) from 1997 to 2001. In 2001, he joined the French NIH (Inserm) as a tenured junior research scientist (CR Inserm) and relocated to Nantes University. He became an Inserm junior Research Director (DR2) and professor in 2008, and a senior Research Director (DR1) and full professor in 2019. Currently, he is the director of the Inserm UMR1229 RMeS research Institute (130pp) in Nantes. He also leads two funding panels for the French Research Agency and coordinates the Inserm national thematic network for osteoarticular diseases. JG served on the board of directors of the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) from 2017 to 2022 and is the French ambassador for the European Orthopedic Research Society and OARSI. He has published over 235 indexed publications (google scholar H-index 74, Tot. Citations 15,500), holds 10 patents, and has given 150 invited lectures. His research focuses on the pathophysiology of osteoarthritis and disc degenerative disease, as well as regenerative medicine for skeletal tissues. He has significantly advanced the use of stem cells and biomaterials for regenerating osteoarticular tissues. JG has received multiple awards, including the "Mescle" and "Guillaumat-Piel" awards from the French Medical Research Foundation and the "Bayle-Lespitau" Award from the Avenir Foundation. He has also received the Inserm scientific excellence award in 2010, 2020 and 2024.
