As an Associate Professor at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) in the Section of Immunology, Allergy, and Rheumatology, clinical rheumatologist and Chief of Rheumatology at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center (MEDVAMC), and an Affiliate Member of the Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety at the MEDVAMC and BCM, with a Master’s of Science in Epidemiology, I have been studying osteoarthritis (OA) for the last 25 years and have authored more than 90 peer-reviewed manuscripts. My long time colleague, Dr. Jeffrey Driban was recently awarded an R24 to fund a Knowledgebase that has a goal of to create a knowledgebase to extract, accumulate, organize, annotate, and link growing bodies of information related to the Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI). As most of the research that I have performed has focused on identifying and understanding risk factors, outcome measures, and treatments for knee OA, much of which has been done using the data from the OAI, I am excited to be a collaborator on this project that is focused on encouraging and facilitating broader and greater use of this rich publicly available resource to study OA.
