Edwin Oei, MD, PhD, is a Full Professor of Musculoskeletal Imaging and Section Chief of Musculoskeletal Radiology at the Department of Radiology & Nuclear Medicine of Erasmus MC, University Medical Center, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Prof. Oei completed his medical studies, radiology residency, as well as a PhD degree on MRI for traumatic knee injury, all at Erasmus MC Rotterdam. He also holds an MSc degree in Clinical Epidemiology. Prof. Oei is the principal investigator of the Advanced Musculoskeletal Imaging Research Erasmus MC (ADMIRE) lab, consisting of 16 PhD students, 2 post-docs and 3 assistant professors. His research is focused mainly on the development, optimization, validation and clinical research applications of advanced, quantitative, imaging techniques for common musculoskeletal disorders such as osteoarthritis. In this research, he uses a wide variety imaging modalities, including quantitative MRI, PET-MRI and photon-counting CT, and ultrasound. In addition, he is involved in large-scale population-based imaging studies and research on AI applications for musculoskeletal imaging. Prof. Oei is an active member of various international professional societies and committees. He is past-president of the European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology (ESMRMB), a former president of the Musculoskeletal MRI Study Group of ISMRM and a member of the European Imaging Biomarkers Alliance (EIBALL) Subcommittee of the European Society of Radiology.
