Angie Botto-van Bemden

Musculoskeletal Research International
Angie is a patient partner with lived experience of osteoarthritis, bringing a dual perspective as both a patient and a health system insider. Drawing on a background in human performance, clinical research and evidence translation, she focuses on integrating clinical and economic data with human-centred patient experience data that reflect meaningful aspects of health to people living with OA in their daily lives- always starting with patient engagement in co-design.
Angie has collaborated with clinicians, researchers, payers, investors and patient communities to shape educational materials, conference presentations, and service redesign initiatives across musculoskeletal and chronic noncommunicable disease care. Personally navigating diagnostic uncertainties, treatment decisions, and functional limitations she advocates for co‑design approaches that move beyond token “patient input” toward genuine partnership.
Angie is particularly interested in how co‑design can improve access, affordability and equity in OA care, whilst also making interventions more feasible and acceptable across the continuum of care. In speaking and advisory roles, she aims to bridge the gap between guidelines and real‑world experience, ensuring that people with osteoarthritis are not only consulted, but meaningfully involved in shaping the research, services, and digital tools designed for them.
